I'm a FSU fan and was thinking of Rainey in the third. He's a killer.

And not just in text messages. OJ? Thank god nobody important can see my dumb texts.

I understand how that impacts his "value" on the Internet but I fail to see how that hampers him running the ball. His YouTube highlights are the best I've seen since Peterson.

"I didn't have him rated so high.....the Steelers are going out of business" etc

Come on. Seriously. Gil Brandt and Kevin Colbert > your biased ranks.

Ok, I'm coming around. Some of these highlights of his are SICK. Dude has this weird ability to just subtly change direction at top speed -- he doesn't break down and lose momentum.  His shiftiness seems always to keep him headed north-south. On several of the plays I saw, he gets great yards-after-catch without ever giving serious ground

 (for instance at 1:05 here
Chris Rainey 2011 Florida Gators Highlights
)

I like the fact that he has elusiveness without having to run around potentially losing yardage. Might be a beast on a reverse or (dare I say?) a bubble screen. As Jerome Bettis would say, he has a real ability to "get skinny." No pun intended.

Also he can do that patented Mendenhall spin about a billion times faster and more effectively than Mendenhall too.

If Ben can be convinced to throw a 5 to 10 yard pass, he could be effective out of the backfield.

Wow, that guy looks great.  I am starting to think our FO knows more that I do.

This guy is a specialist.  Kick returner, trick plays, 3rd down back seems to be his forte.  So would we use him to return punts or try to block them?

After watching these highlights, I realize why I'm not making the big bucks picking people and OJ was pretty productive ON the field, right??    angel7

Remember him?

I don't get too worked up over drafting guys with "character issues".  Everybody does dumb shit in college.  Sure you could argue that these guys should have known they were jeapordizing millions of dollars and all of that.  But they were/are just kids.  We already brought in a Rhodes scholar, shouldn't that appease everyone who wants us to draft boy scouts?  This is a site that glorifies James Harrison FFS (and rightfully so, might I add).  We aren't drafting dudes to help old ladies cross the street here.

When/if either Adams or Rainey falls off the wagon and get arrested again, then you can all come back and say "I told you so", but until then let's just see what they can do on the field. In the meantime, it looks like we got a couple of talented dudes a lot later than they normally would have gone.

Say what you want, the Steelers FO has definitely adjusted the character criterion.  Maybe Adams is now a choirboy and Rainey had a youthful indiscretion.  Maybe they prove themselves on the field in a perfectly lovely manner.  Was a time neither would have been in B&G.  Hey, I'm just an armchair hack who puts out some opinions on the draft, WTF do I know?  I don't have the scouting reports, personal interviews, etc.  Apparently the FO felt that because Rainey lived in the Pouncey household some magical fairy dust rubbed off on him.

Hope they both pan out.

Cheers.
