The Patriots acquired Ochocinco and defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth last summer, after the lockout.  They were praised at the time for both moves, although neither panned out.

Ochocinco ended up being the far more costly mistake.  Via a contract restructuring, the Pats gave him a $6 million signing bonus.  He also earned a salary of $1 million in 2011.

You gotsta love it.  Although admittedly, these mistakes did culminate in a SB appearance.

1.21 - RB Laurence Maroney - bust.  Under 2500 yards in 4 seasons, out of NFL since 2010.
2.36 - WR Chad Johnson Johnson - uber-bust.  Out of NFL since 2008.
3.86 - TE David Thomas - <200 yards receiving in 3 years w/ NE.  852 career yards, backup with the Saints.

1.24 - DB Brandon Meriweather - bust.  Dumb as rocks.  Now a Redskin.

1.10 –LB Jerod Mayo – solid; not worth a top-10 pick.
2.62 – CB Terrence Wheatley – marginal at best; now a Titan.
3.78 – LB Shawn Crable – bust.  Out of NFL since 2010.
3.94 – QB Kevin O’Donnell – career backup at best.  Cut after 2008 season; on Jets roster since then.

2.34 – S Patrick Chung – 24 starts in 3 seasons.  Seems serviceable at best.
2.40 – DT Ron Brace – 7 starts in 3 seasons, fat and worthless.  BJ Raji’s DT teammate at BC; he’s no Raji.
2.41 – DB Darius Butler – cut after 8 starts in 2 seasons, now a Panther.  Never lived up to hype.
2.58 – OT Sebastian Vollmer – starting RT; only 29 starts in 3 seasons.

1.27 – CB Devin McCourtney – great rookie season, OK 2011 season.
2.42 – TE Rob Gronkowski – home run.  Should be noted, R5 DB Cortez Allen shut him down effectively in Steelers game.
2.53 – OLB Jermaine Cunningham – 11 games started in 2 seasons, 27 tackles, 1 sack.  A backup who gets pushed lower with Dont’a Hightower’s arrival.
2.62 – ILB Brandon Spikes – started 14 games in 2 seasons, all of 108 tackles over that span; has been OK for them.

2011[/u]

1.17 – OT Nate Solder – 13 starts in 2011, will move to LT with Matt Light retiring.  Looks solid so far.
2.33 – DB Ras-I Dowling – Injury concerns coming out of college, 2 starts, incomplete.
2.56 – RB Shane Vereen – 57 yards rushing as part of the Belly rotation, incomplete but  not promising.
3.73 – RB Stevan Ridley – Why 2 RBs in consecutive picks?  Who knows.  Ridley is presumptive starter, a whopping 441 yards rushing last year.
3.74 – QB Ryan Mallett – Brady’s backup has looked good in what we’ve seen.  Incomplete.

21 premium round picks. 

A:  Gronkowski.
B: Mayo, Vollmer, Solder.
C: McCourtney, Spikes, Ridley.

Smith was a borderline starter, but at least he broke the starting lineup, had some career time in GB.  Dumb as shit, picked on by NE, but had some games.

Yeah, late round value is a whole other question.  AB is probably one of the our best finds late since... Keisel?  Not counting UDFAs (Harrison, FWP).
