All I want is 82 wins.

Highly unlikely.  They'd have to go 10-12 the rest of the way.

And as .500 not-so-slowly fades into the autumn twilight, we get this:

I got nothing here.

In other news: Pirates trade star closer Joel Hanrahan for a case of gatorade and 3 tubes of IcyHot.

And Bob Nutting keeps lining his pockets.

Trade good players expecting significant raises for other teams cast-offs rejects and failures, rinse and repeat = successful business model.

I didn't mind that they dealt Hanrahan.  But it really seems like they got absolutely nothing in return.  A sixth corner OF guy and 3 AA pitchers?!?  A decent SS prospect would have been nice.

This reminds me how shitty the Lincoln trade was.

The Pirates actually gave up the only SS prospect in the entire organization.

In exchange for Hanrahan and Brock Holt the Pirates get first baseman/outfielder Jerry Sands, reliever Mark Melancon, and prospects Stolmy Pimentel and Ivan De Jesus.

Just re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Quote
Boston got Melancon from Houston last offseason for Jed Lowrie, but he quickly went from setup man to the minors after a brutal start. He returned in June and pitched well with a 4.19 ERA and 40/10 K/BB ratio in 43 innings, so the Pirates definitely bought low on a capable late-inning bullpen arm.

Neither Pimental nor De Jesus ranked among the Red Sox’s top 10 prospects according to Baseball America. De Jesus, who was also acquired in the Gonzalez/Crawford/Beckett swap, has spent most of the past three seasons at Triple-A and projects as a bench player in the majors at age 26. Pimentel spent this season at Double-A as a 22-year-old, throwing 116 innings with a 4.59 ERA and 86/42 K/BB ratio.

26 year old prospects?  Sounds like they'll fit right in.

Stolmy Pimentel

Meh.  All the flavored vodkas are overrated IMO.

Agree with the above assuming Jerry Sands doesn't pan out. But 26 homers in less than 120 AAA games last season makes him a guy with tremendous power.
