He was hoping to get signed by the Steelers out of Oregon State.  He's a committed old school player who still has gas in the tank.  He's able to be brought onto the team this year and has stated he'd be thrilled to play for us.  Good lord we need a dominate running back and he'd immediately help us out.

Last time we brought a FA from the RAMS at running back was Jerome Bettis.  That worked out for a ring let's do it again.  Steven Jackson is a beast playing for a crap team....modern day Earl Cambell type getting pounded into early retirement because of shitty coaching/ownership.  God help Steven Jackson for at least one year where he can play with real contenders.  The kid deserves it and has a heart for football like no other kid ever seen before.

Jackson's an 8 year vet; he's not a kid.  We got Bettis after 3.  Also, Bettis was acquired in a trade, not as an FA.

Bettis was 25 years old and entering his 4th season in the league when acquired by the Steelers.  Jackson is 30 and has been in the league 9 years (carrying an entire team on his back the entire time).  HUGE difference!

Unless he comes in as a role playing veteran presence at the league minimum, I don't see it happening.

Loved Jackson coming out of college, think the world of him as a great back for a sucky team, what's he really gonna do for us?  RBs are fungible; go young, look for value throughout this draft class, keep developing Dwyer and Redman.

Love Steven Jackson and what he's done, but have to agree. He is not going to be a value unless he's willing to take peanuts. And as a RB at his age, that would be foolish of him. And he doesn't impress me as a guy who is foolish.

Someone will overpay for him. Doubt it will be Pgh.

I am OK with Dwyer, but still really like Redman.
