Finnegans Wake:
Ravens trade Boldin to 49ers for a R6; Niners pick up $6M tab.

pensodyssey:
I get the feeling they were looking to clear space for an offer to Ellerbe or Krueger.

6th round pick?  *snicker*  Salary dump the whole way.

Finnegans Wake:
Oh, it's clearly a salary dump.  Figure, get what you can get from a guy who'd otherwise be cut.

But for the Niners, they're getting a guy who's still got a few years of production left at about half the going rate for a franchise WR, and he seems to be a good fit with what they need.  I'm betting they re-do his deal anyway, so giving a 6th was pretty painless.

Plus Boldin is out of our hair unless we meet the Rice-a-Ronies in the SB.

Sounds like Ray Ray got to him.

(Early February '13) -- "Baltimore is the only place I want to play," Boldin said in an interview set to air at 5 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network. "It’s the last place that I will play.  For me, I’ll retire a Raven, I’m not putting on any other uniform. .. We have a saying, once a Raven, always a Raven, and I’ll always be a Raven.”

(Early March '13) -- "I love the Ravens; I love the organization," he said. "But at the same time, I think everybody understands it's a business, and that's something that I definitely understand. I love everything about the Ravens. But if things don't work out there, I'll sit with my family, we'll talk it over, pray about it and see what God is asking me to do.

WOW - both Ellerbe and Kruger are gone.  Sounds like a fire sale to keep lil Joey.

The Cleveland Browns and pass-rushing linebacker Paul Kruger have reached an agreement on a five-year contract.
Kruger's deal is worth $40 million, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

AFC North champs also reportedly lost inside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe in free agency to Miami. Perennial Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed could be next.
