It hadn't occurred to me to start this thread again, until this, the day of my daughter's wedding we clinched a division title.

I'll only track 1 and 2 for the time being.

Team GP W L OTL PTS
1. PIT 40 30 10 0 60
2. MTL 39 25 9 5 55

Also, this just in.  The Flyers suck.

You can probably edit the title of the thread to remove "12-" since the games didn't even start until Jan 2013.

That's a good point.

Also, I am only going to track the Pens for now, as it appears BOS and MTL will be going back and forth in the 2 slot up til the end.  Next week I'll start posting the 6, 7, 8 race to keep on eye on the seeds.

Not that this even needs to be said but it's just a completely different team with Letang out there.  Looked fully healthy for the first time in a while last night too.

Montreal appears to be circling the drain.  P.K. Subban appears to be a bigger chickenshit asshole than ever.  Would not shock me at all if they get bumped by Toronto in round one.

Rooting for Buffalo tonight.  If they win, the Islanders are locked into the #8 seed.  I think that the Islanders are the ideal first round opponent.  Not that I think it will be an easy series but I don't want to deal with A.) possibility of Lundquist stealing a series or B.) Ottawa gooning it up for 7 games, looking for retribution.

Of course we gotta deal with whomever is put in front of us.  Beat up on a bad Carolina team Saturday to go in with some momentum, hopefully.

Martin and Neal return tonight, no word on Orpik or Sid.  Should get some semblence of what our first round lineup will look like.  Based on the lines they've run out in practice the past few days, Kunitz is with malkin and Neal and Iginla would be with Dupuis and Sid.  Jokinen instead of Sid until hes back.

If Ottawa wins in regulation, ot or so, we get the isles.  They lose (in any form, I think? correct me if I'm wrong; fuck, I hate the NHL standings format) we get OTT.

Either way, I'm down with it.  Let's get the playoffs going.  Too bad Philly didn't make it.   We'll miss your cheap shotting asses... not at all.

Correct, if Ottawa wins in any format, we play the Isles as a win always gets you two points. If Ottawa loses in OT or shootout then there are a number of tiebreakers in play including wins (not applicable here as NYI and Ott would have same records), wins in regulation (defined as wins not occurring by shootouT;again the teams are tied), head-to-head, goal differential.

I would prefer the Islanders. Question is, would you prefer to play the Sens in lieu of a likely round two matchup against the Bruins (as a win today would give them the #2 seed)?

If we're going to make the finals, we're going to have to play Boston sooner or later, IMO.

True.  However there is a benefit of deferral given Crosby's health and synergies with the new players that may take a little time to develop once he is in the lineup.  On the flip side, Boston has been playing like absolute ass of late, so a closer in time matchup could bode well.

I also think Montreal could be a more difficult matchup.  Hopefully we only see one of the two.

What happened to Nieuwendyk?  I guess the Goligoski-for-Neal and Niskanen trade should have been a clue.

1. PIT 48 35 12 0 72pts
8. NYI 48 24 17 7 55

And there it is.  Like I said above, happy to get the Isles in round one.  A golden opportunity to erase some unpleasant postseason memories in a year when the Isles just aren't very good.

My full first round predictions:

East
PIT in 5 over NYI
MON in 6 over OTT
BOS in 6 over TOR
WAS in 7 over NYR

West
CHI in 4 over MIN
DET in 7 over ANA
VAN in 7 over SJ
LA in 6 over STL

Small area of concern is the Islanders power play, which has been really good, versus the Penguins PK which has been blah.  That said, Pens in 5 or 6.

After last year's clusterfuck on the PK you'd think it would be a special point of emphasis.

Oh I agree.   Murray helps in that regard although part of me wishes they had made a move for another blueliner.  Hopefully MAF of the past 2 years doesn't show up either although we have a solid plan B if that is the case.

Interesting to note neither Sid or Geno have scored against Nabokov in their careers.  Also the last playoff series that the Islanders won was the fucking David Volek game.

May 14th 1993.

I remember it like it was yeterday.  Senior year in college in Philly, watched the whole series with an isles fan buddy of mine whose nickname was "Chunk".  Making matters worse was the fact that I had only just gotten over the Francisco Cabrera thing.

Sense is Crosby's broken jaw is so close to healed he's moving into what PIT will call "game-time decision" status until he actually plays.

Judging by the lines in practice, Bennett is in (and on the 2nd power play unit) and TK is out.  Great news right there.  Now if only they'd dress Jeffrey (or even TK) for Glass I'd be happy.

Disco Dan is rolling with:

Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Dupuis-Jokinen-Iginla
Morrow-Sutter-Cooke
Glass-Adams-Bennett

Saw a couple different defensive pairing since Oprik is a game time decision.
