Thought we could use some new threads in here.

Similar to the gameday threads for the Steelers.

Really hard to find fault with that game.  PP clicked, PK clicked, better team at even strength.

I expect the Isles to come out and try to muscle us next game, because, though they looked fast early on, it's clear they can't skate 4 lines deep with us.

Most impressed with Fleury as well.  Just gotta get him going;once he is settled in, he is all-world.

Yeah they were already starting to goon it up in the 3rd. Great performance all around, hard to pick stars when the whole team plays that well but Morrow, Murray, and Bennett really stood out for me.  Bennett simply cannot be scratched, even when Sid is back and if Neal is ok.  he is just so solid in every aspect of his game, the kid is going to be a star.

Of course I'm annoyed by Neal and Jokinen injuries.  I know it's the Stanley Cup playoffs and shit is going to happen, but much like the Steelers season it would be nice to have our whole fucking team on the ice for one damn game.  My guess is Jokinen is ok but who the hell knows with Neal at this point.

Mark Madden tweeted that his locker room source says both are fine and well.  Neither injury looked bad- Jokinens' was late in the game so obvious decision to take him out there.  Neal actually got back up and continued on power play before heading for dressing room.

BB is great.  You have to scratch Glass for Crosby.

Thanks, didn't see that tweet from Madden.  I would hope they scratch Glass or even Adams when Sid's healthy.  Bennett just brings so much more than either of those guys, and with Dupuis, Sutter, Cooke, Jokinen, Morrow, hell even Kunitz they have enough forwards that kill penalties.  I definitely don't see them scratching Adams though since Bylsma loves him.

No clue on the lines from this morning, but in my opinion he should be kept together with Kunitz and Dupuis.  He's says he is (most?) comfortable with that.  No need to overload the top line with offensive talent at the cost of certain synergies that work very well for Kunitz and Dupuis (Crosby) and Neal (Malkin).

Sid was with Dupuis and Kunitz in the morning skate and on the # 1 PP unit. Lines were as follows:

14-87-9
19-71-12
10-16-24
27-36-15

Iggy slides to Neal's spot, Bennett moves up to the second line.  Jokinen gets Adams and Glass.  I'd still play Kunitz with malkin and Neal when everyone is healthy and put Iginla on Sids right wing.  Porbably not going to happen though.

Right.  Because it seems we're ever gonna get everyone healthy!

Not much to say about that abortion of an effort.  They didn't look good even when up 3-1 and I hate giving up a game at home with that kind of lead.  Please please please get fucking Engelland out of the lineup for Depres.

Agree.  Paul Martin needs to sack up too.  He had absolutely no ability or desire to clear the crease.  No matter what garbage these Canadian announcers spew, he has not improved enough.

No business winning that game.  Outworked on the boards, zero forecheck, zero cycle, poor passing, a free ride through the neutral zone for the isles, and dangerous only to ourselves trying to get out of our end.  Eaton had a nightmare, Niskanen not much better.

Yeah that game was the definition of stealing one.  I'm having concerns about their ability to generate any even strength offense against this team.  I said the Pens in 6 I think and I'm sticking with that for now but the outcome of tommorrow night IMO is going to decide this series.

Neal and Orpik both praticed today.  Orpik has had a pretty disappointing season by his standards, but he's going to be a huge improvement over Engelland and Depres.

Anyone else having fun watching one of the most talented rosters in the league piss away another playoff series?  I'll go on record right now that if Fluery starts game 5 we lose this series.  I'm sure Bylsma will wait until it's 2-0 Isles to yank him.

What the hell is up with him? Started the series so good with that 5-0 shutout, then fell apart in every game since. At least they managed to win game 3 in spite of trying everything they could to lose it. Same with this past game. Last night's game wouldn't even have been close if it wasn't for some terrible officiating against the Isles. I actually felt for the fans and figured there would be a riot - mostly justified - if the Pens ended up winning.

He has been outplayed each of the past 3 years in the postseason by people like Jaroslav Halak, Dwayne Roloson, and Ilya Bryzgalov.  His save percentage the last 4 postseasons, including this year, .891, .899, .834, .891.  Those are bottom of the league type numbers.  If you take away the 5-0 shutout (26 saves) he's been worse this year than ever.  The first, third, and sixth goals last night were some of the worst I've ever seen.

He should have been yanked last night after the 3rd goal, which was beyond pathetic.  People like to point to the defense but every goal with the exception of the Tavares goal that went off Murray's skate was his fault.  And I'll add when you are one of the highest payed goaltenders in the league, YOU NEED TO STEAL A GAME ONCE IN A WHILE.  Make a goddamn save once in a while.

I'd play Vokoun for the duration and I'd seriously consider amnesty for Fluery next year.  Two more years on that albatross of a contract of 5.5 per year or whatever could be put to better use than on an average goaltender.

I know this is somewhat of an annoying rant but it has been three straight years of this shit, gut wrenching goals, horribly misplayed pucks, inability to stop a beachball, flopping around like a spazzed out frog etc.  I want him on his ass for the rest of this series, and if Vokoun wins the series then the rest of the playoffs.

I've been a vocal Fleury supporter in the past, but enough is enough.  Let's see what Vokoun can do.

Penguins lines at the morning skate:

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Iginla-Malkin-Neal
Morrow-Sutter-Cooke
Adams-Vitale-Kennedy
Bennett-Jokinen-Jeffrey

Looks like I may get my wish and Glass is out.  Don't like taking Jokinen out of the line-up though, although Vitale is at least his equal on face-offs.

Also, Depres is apparently skating with Letang.  that is either going to be a genius move or a fucking disaster.  Something had to be done though, as Eaton cannot skate with these guys anymore.  Eaton has looked horrible since game 1.

No worries.  The NFL playoffs haven't even started yet.  I know, I watch ESPN.  They must start after the NBA postseason wraps.

Much better effort all around. As for the goaltending, i don't have any interest in the chicken/egg or cart/horse questions. Start Vokoun til he loses.

Yep, line-up changes and adjustments seemed to make a huge difference.  Also nice to see Depres getting 14:10 of ice time.  Martin and Letang were playing 30+ every game this series and were down to the mid twenties last night.  He's easily the 3rd most talented defenseman on the roster, I don't care if he's green, play him.

I'd take it a step further and play Vokoun until he loses consecutive games.

Close this shit out Saturday.  I want no part of a game 7.  Game 7's and AFC championships at home have not been kind to us over the years.

It's funny how all the penguins numbers (possession, SOG, etc.) improve when the islanders actually have to, you know, work for scoring chances rather than blindly throwing pucks at the net which become goals due to a fucking spaz goaltender.

Feels good to win.  Not a pretty series; obviously we did not get the memo that neutral zone and board battles win in the playoffs.  Hopefully we got it now, and decide to play hard all the time and not just when we feel like it.
