Quiet Times in Steelerland

May 29, 2009

The White House visit has passed and James Harrison’s name dropped below the fold. May is winding down and summer is cranking up. These are quiet times in Steelerland. However, mini-camps or OTA’s are underway and if one digs he can find a bit of news or some speculation about the boys in black and gold. Sometimes though, it’s best to go straight to the source for news.

Harrison Remains a Steeler

A collective sigh of relief was heard across Steeler Nation earlier today as news of James Harrison’s contract extension spread. Sure, Harrison was still under contract for one more season, but now the drama of playing out his last year with out an extension has been avoided. The six year $51M contract is the largest ever for a Steelers defensive player. It blew away my prediction, “More than five years at $40M with $9M guaranteed…

When one thinks of the Pittsburgh Steelers images of crushing blows, sturdy defense and a physical,…

Beat Down at Lady Gillette

It was a rainy day along much of the East Coast, fitting weather as the Patriots’ defense threatened to rain on the Steelers‘ hopes of a road win. Big Ben’s second pass from scrimmage was intercepted and quickly converted into a Patriots touchdown. The next possession was a 3-and-out. The game had ugly potential before it started. That potential was quickly realized. Characteristically, the Pittsburgh defense would force punts on the following three series before…

Steelers Waste Stellar Defensive Effort

October 27, 2008

Kudos are in order for the defense. How many straight times did they stand strong when the Giants had first and goal? Then again when the Giants had inches to go? Time after time they stood strong and time after time the offense shat their pants in return. The offense snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. It’s hard to pick where to begin on this one. May have to let it sit for another…
